AUT University’s best athletes were recognised at its 2007 Blue Sports Awards last month with Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year going to surf lifesaver Michael Buck and boxer Alexis Pritchard.
Buck, 23, is studying business, while Pritchard, 24, is completing a Bachelor of Health Science in Physiotherapy.
Bruce Meyer, who leads sport development at AUT, says these two athletes represent New Zealand in their sports as well as achieving excellent grades and contributing to AUT.
National hockey player Ben Collier, 23, won male athlete of the year, and golfer Phillis Meti, 20, won female athlete of the year.
The four winners were among 37 athletes to receive a 2007 AUT Blue Sports Award. All recipients have represented their region or country at the highest level while studying at AUT.
